members zone

the members zone of tdc is an ongoing development

of our website.

The idea is that we are going to be able to give

you online support to back up and further your

on snow improvement.

Ski Club of Manchester

We are going to have here a weekly up date of the latest snow conditions as well, tech tips, fitness help, and use of the latest web and video technology to bring a greater experience to you.

Over the last few years many people who have skied with us have asked if it would

be possible to have some kind reference to the things that they have learned during their time skiing with us.

Just a option to re-cap on some of the

major points.

It will be through this new memberzone

that we will fulfilling this possibility.

tdconline

will be using all the latest web and video

technologies to give you a greater skiing

experience.

Technical Tips

Below you will find some "top tips" from the development centre coaches, designed to whet your appetite for how we coach.
There are tips for each 'topic', such as bumps, and we have split each topic into different levels of ability.

discovery, development and challenges - for more info on our levels click here

Topic - Bumps

discovery bumps - Find some bumps that are nicely spaced out on gentle terrain, this will give you the time to feel the skid and target the bump.
development bumps - Imagine the troughs are full of water and you need to reach your toes in to test the temperature. Watch out the water is boiling! Once the leg is fully stretched into the trough you feel the heat and pull your toes out as you hit the bump.
challenges bumps - Set a target of skiing 10 bumps non stop. Count the bumps out loud as you go down the run, this will help you keep a rhythm and will keep you focused.

Topic - Steeps

discovery steeps - Finish your turns! Make sure that you keep the arc going until you start to slow down. If you start the next turn too early you’ll accelerate, however if you leave it too late you’ll stop! It’s all about finding the optimum moment to change direction.
development steeps -The distance you plant your pole away from your body is proportional to the steepness of the slope. The steeper the slope the more you need to reach down the mountain away from your feet. Think of slopes as green, blue, red, black and reach a little further for each progression.
challenges steeps -Try not to turn through the full 180 degrees in the air. When you jump you need to be soft on the landing, this is much easier if you allow a little room to skid the final part of the turn.

Topic - Racing

discovery racing - Think about your turn finishing as you ski past the gate this way you will be ready for the next gate as early as possible.
development racing - Get yourself a helmet and try tucking the top and the bottom of the course. Every second counts and the race position not only increases your aero dynamism but will also fire you up to attack.
challenges racing - Make sure you inspect the course before the race. You won’t be allowed to ski the racing line but it is essential to shadow the course to see where the rhythm changes are and the parts that might catch you out.

Topic - Off Piste

discovery off-piste - When you hit the deep stuff your skis will slow down quite rapidly. Be ready for it and make sure your body also slows down; otherwise it is head plant time!
development off-piste - Let your core follow the path of your skis. Sudden movements with your upper body will unbalance you and prevent the skis from taking you round the turn. Let the skis do the work.
challenges off-piste - Avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe and a rucksack. These are the essential tools of an off piste skier. They could save your life or that of your friends. It is all about fun but be prepared.

Topic - New Skis

discovery skis - Pay a visit to the Precision Ski shop in Val d’Isère and discuss the options available to you. With the help of a development centre coach and a Precision technical expert you’ll have every angle covered.
development skis - Test some skis before you buy. A lot of resorts have shops with this facility; in Val d’Isère there is the Snowtec Test Centre in La Daille. You can never really be sure until you’ve sampled the goods!
challenges skis -Get sponsored!
